Clothes are a 'modest' success
SPRINGVILLE — They say that necessity is the mother of invention. In the case of one American Fork woman's invention, necessity has brought about a mother lode of attention.
A line of shirts Chelsea Rippy designed to make her life easier has now caught the attention of women scattered across the nation, mostly due to the unusual cut: ultra-modest.
"The general response has been, 'Finally, I can wear what I want to wear and still feel really comfortable and modest,' " said Rippy, who founded American Fork-based Shade Clothing. "People are just so excited to have something cover their body whether or not they're standing or bending over."

Utah vividly illustrates the changes credit has wrought in the U.S. Last year, 28 of every 1,000 Utah households filed for bankruptcy, twice the national average and nearly triple Utah's rate a decade earlier, according to Economy.com, a West Chester, Pa., consulting firm. Utahns often get married early and have the largest families in the nation on average. That makes for a lot of young parents with modest incomes looking for big homes and cars. The median monthly mortgage payment in Utah equaled 45.3% of a worker's average monthly income in 2002, the fourth-highest level in the nation, according to the Utah Foundation, a Salt Lake City think tank.

It is Friday the 13th
Hi there family,
Yes it is the "Friday the 13th" but all is well. I just hope the weather doesn't send us too much water this weekend. We are suppose to get warmer weather and that sounds good. But we don't need another rush of water coming down the creek.
We are in the middle of CORE testing at school. So my days are not very predictable. I take some of my teachers reading groups or do testing. It just changes all day long.
Suzanne and I went to Logan yesterday on errands. I did get cheese, lotion from Bath and Body and even Kimball and I's birthday cake. Yes it is an Ice Cream Cake. It is frozen and so it can wait until we are ready to eat it. Kimball and his Dad are traveling over his birthday and so he won't be here until after his birthday. But I am having my tooth implant put in just before my birthday and so I will have my cake early with Kimball. So anyway the cake is here.
Well Suzanne is home for lunch. I hope all of you have a wonderful "13th"!

Is spelling actually important?
This past week in my English 312 I had a little assignment to do on spelling and the following was included in the activity. I think it is amazing how it works. I even read it in Spanish and it worked and my roomate read it in Portuguese also. I will include the paragraph in English, Spanish and French for Kimball.

Buenas
Hola Family
I should have known it was going to happen, but I wasn´t really prepared for it. It´s the kind of thing Elders talk about and get full body shivers. It really didn´t sink in until that phone call on Sunday, my brother likes girls. Half of the reason that´s scarey is because it means I am also destined for such a fate. Yet, I cannot edit photos and so I´ll have to find some different outlet when I go goofy. Well, goofier than normal.
I gotta write about this though, we´re in an internet shop and the shop owner´s little boy, about 1-2 years, walks in waving his pants in the air. No wonder Mark misses spain.
Just yesterday we found a really cool Spaniard to teach, his name is Blas. He asked questions and understood what we taught. He was in Canada for a while and so wanted to practice English and so we did the charla in English. He´s going into Engineering and we have to figure out a time when he isn´t working on his lab. He´s a guay [editor's note - guay means cool] guy.
I´m looking forward to spending a good long time in Malaga, there is a lot going on here. The zone has 10 bautismal dates set and my companionship will hopefully add to those soon.
Just a few questions, Mom mentioned that Angela was engaged to Adam. Adam? Who´s he? Also, I want to hear about this handcart trek, it sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I´ll try to send my package soon, I know I´ve been saying that for a while yet I really intend to do it. Well, thanks for reading

Rocky Mountain Football League
Just so everyone knows Brigham City has a semi-professional football team and there is one here in Rexburg (or close to Rexburg atleast). Anyways the Brigham City team played the team up here last week. And just so you everyone knows how amazing the team is here is the score.

One person was taken to the hospital last Saturday after a fight broke out during a semi-professional football game in Kamas.
He had just kind of jumped in the center of it to break it up. He wasn't involved in the initial altercation," said Summit County Sheriff's Office Capt. Joe Offret about the victim.
The Kamas Valley Mud Dogs call the new turf at South Summit High School home. But a recent game against the Brigham City Devil Dogs ended early after players from both teams began to brawl...
As a result of the fight, Kamas Valley Mud Dogs owner Ed Descamps fired some of his players. The Mud Dogs belong to the Rocky Mountain Football League.
"There were five players from my team who have received lifetime bans from the league," Descamps said. "It was an unfortunate incident that will never happen again because all we're trying to do is bring a good, positive thing to the town of Kamas.
Referees called the game with about five minutes remaining and the Mud Dogs were ahead 33-0.
"Referees told us that Kamas Valley initiated it and that's what was going into their report," said Robert Horne, general manager of the Brigham City Devil Dogs. "We were just defending."

DVD player filters out nudity, violence
(CNN) -- The world's biggest retailer is offering a DVD player that slices out potentially offensive content from movies, such as nudity, violence and foul language.
The device, available at Wal-Mart for about $70, merges video-editing technology developed by ClearPlay with an RCA brand DVD player.
The DVD player works by cutting scenes or muting parts of the movie, according to guidelines from ClearPlay's staff of editors, said ClearPlay CEO Bill Aho.

Boca Burgers
Last night I was in the kitchen and one of my roomates said that there was a box of hamburgers in the freezer that the people before us had left. I am always up for free food and hamburgers are always good. I decided that I would cook one up. But here is the catch - they aren't "hamburgers" they are "soy burgers". I had never tried soy so I thought I would give it a shot. As I was cooking it I was starting to doubt - it didn't have the texture of meat. I finished up and tried a piece. It was the most aweful creation made by man. It was horrible. Then Mike says, "Well maybe you just need some ketchup." So I tried it with ketchup and it didn't help. Now I am just posting this to make sure no one makes the same mistake that I made. And watchout for their other products the chicken, sausage, pizza, breakfast and ground meat. It was not an experience that I would like to repeat and I don't want anyone that I love and care about to have to eat this horrible man made substance.

Ooch!! Kurt
Hi there kids,
Well this is an entry from Mom or Grandma as some of you like to call me. I was enjoying a conversation with Sharla today. And after awhile I heard a noise and Sharla said Kurt had just pulled off a bottle of applesauce and it broke. Then he stepped in it. (This is all as I understand it.) Anyway it ended our conversation. About 2 hours later Sharla called to tell me the out come. Kurt was bleeding but not from his foot. It was his thumb and they ended up in the emergancy room and he got stitches in his thumb. I feel so very bad for Kurt, Kimball and Sharla. That is an emotional deal for all of them. I just hope Kurt can sleep tonight well. I think Sharla said he had 3 stitches. Not fun at all.
I am looking forward to Matt's call this Sunday morning. He is probably calling us around 6 to 7am. Yes I will be happy to get up for that call. He sounded happy in his last e-mail and so this should be a fun call. It will be good to talk to him and find out about his new area.
Alisha Clayson got a scholarship to BYU-I and so will be there this fall. Mark will have a cousin to share the fun with. That will be fun.

College Microwaves
This morning I got back from Accounting 201 at about 9:45 this morning and I was pretty happy since it is the only class that I have today. So I put a bag of popcorn in the microwave. The microwave went crazy. It lit up really bright and when I opened the door smoke came out. Anways all that I did was stop it and start it again and it worked the second time. My roomate, Jamis, wouldn't let me try it for the second time until he had left for class. I don't think you can see the smoke in the picture but it was there.

Hola Family
Well, I have been transfered. I´m now in Malaga with Elder Wilcox as my zone leader. He was my comp in the MTC and I´m really glad to see him again. My new companion is Elder Grey, he´s really cool. We´re opening a new area that is completely new to both of us so we´re having an adventure. Malaga, wow. So now about mother´s day, I think that the phone card I used for christmas will work, but I´ll buy another because I´m not sure. I´ll call you guys Sunday night here, so that´d been Sunday afternoon. Wait, I´ve gotta think a little. I´d have to call at 10:00 to get you guys at 2:00 right when you leave church, but if I call you at 2 or 3 our time(during Medio Dia) it´ll get you guys at 6 or 7. I think that should be fine, hopefully dad will be around and not with assignments out and about. I´m sorry I didn´t think about this sooner, I don´t think it would have mattered with transfers and all. I think that this will work, so I´ll call you Sunday morning your time.
I also remember finally to tell Mark that my trainer (Elder Zack Olsen) is going to BYU-I also. So he could find another guy to speak spanish with. Just last monday (before transfers) the wards in Cadiz took a trip for fun out to the ´campo´. It´s a field more or less, there were cowpies every now and then even on the soccer field. It was really fun and a good chance to enjoy the company of the members before I left. We played soccer, I ate a lot because both wards wanted to feed me, and took some good pictures. I hope things are going well back home. Oh, in my room is a little box. It´s covered with electric tape and duct tape (yeah it´s mine) and it has some cards for a game I played in High School. These should go to Brett, it has a lot of his cards and to sort out which are mine and which are his isn´t worth it. He can have them all. I´m sorry again, but my sending of the package has been again delayed by transfers. I´ll get my film developed and send it off soon. I´m sorry that these gifts are so late, I can´t really help it.
I really don´t know much about my area, it´s my first couple of hours here. So I´ll call you guys Sunday about 2 or 3 then and talk it up.

BYU students and the real world
Scholars may feel that BYU students need "reality treatment" to know what people in the "real world" experience. But every student's life is as real as any other person's reality. The moral safety of gospel living will help students of all backgrounds to gain rigorous intellectual training, to develop creativity, and to explore the universe with keen curiosity, childlike awareness, and exquisite kindness.
